BASKETBALL RULES

I.  Rule Book:

  1. F.I.B.A. (Latest Edition) -– (ADs and Coaches must be familiar with these rules)
  2. ISAC and “House” Rules are indicated which take priority over official rules.

III. Uniforms:

  1. Uniforms for basketball may consist of numbers from 1 to 99 and must be clearly seen on the front and the back for referees.
  2. F.I.B.A. regulations for numbers and uniforms should be followed as closely as possible.
    1. It is recommended that under garments be the same color as the playing uniform or black with dark uniform / white with light uniform.
  3. Teams should possess both a light and dark uniform to ensure opposing teams in a particular game are wearing contrasting colors.
    1. The first team listed on the schedule shall be designated as the “Home Team” and
    shall wear their light uniform.
    2. If a team does not have both light and dark the tournament director will provide
    appropriate “bibs” for them to wear when there is a conflict.

ISAC Basketball Tournament Format:

  1. A full round robin will be played to establish a seeding for the final play-off round of the tournament.
  2. Games should begin no earlier than 8am on any day, and should be completed by 8pm when at all possible.
  3. 8 minute running clock quarters will be used.
  4. At the end of each quarter there will be a 2 minute break. At half time there will be a 5 minute break.
  5. The last 1 minute of each quarter will be run using “stop – time”.
  6. The clock will also be stopped when:
    1. FreeThrowsareadministered
    2. Timeoutsaregranted
    3. Thereisanyunusualdelay,andtherefereesignalstostoptheclock
  7. One 30 second time out shall be allowed per team per quarter.
  8. 10 minutes of on court warm-up will be given to the competing teams when the schedule allows for it.
  9. A 24 second shot-clock will be used for all games following FIBA timing rules.
  10. Should teams be tied at the end of regulation play, the teams will immediately begin play in a 4 minute overtime period
    Overtime guidelines:
    a. The overtime period will begin with a jumpball.
    b. 1 timeout is allowed per overtime period.
    c. The 24 second shot clock will still be used.
    d. Personal & team fouls from the 4th quarter will carry over.
    e. The last 1 minute of each overtime period will be run using “stop-time”.
    f. In the case of a tie at the end of an overtime period, another four min overtime period will be played. Overtime periods will continue until there is a winner.
  11. Semi-final round matches will be played for basketball: 1st vs 4th, 2nd vs 3rd.
  12. Round robin standings will be based on the 3-win, 1-loss, 0-forfeit scoring system.
  13. The ISAC tiebreak procedures will be used when necessary.
  14. All round robin games should take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning with the finals on Saturday afternoon of the tournament.
  15. 2 officials must be used for all round robin games, and 3 must be used for semi-final and final rounds.
  16. Teams may have only 5 players and 2 non-players on the bench. Only the coach may stand, all others on the bench must remain seated on the bench at all times. The AD may sit on the bench at anytime and will not be included in the non-player count.

  1. Uniforms for football may consist of numbers from 1 to 99 and must be clearly visible on the back of the shirt
  2. F.I.F.A. regulations for numbers and uniforms should be followed as closely as possible.
  3. It is recommended that under garments should be the same color as the playing uniform or black with dark uniform / white with light uniform.
  4. Teams should possess both a light and dark uniform to ensure opposing teams in a particular game are wearing contrasting colors.

    2. If a team does not have both light and dark the tournament director will provide
    appropriate “bibs” for them to wear when there is a conflict.
  5. Goal keepers are required to wear bright and contrasting colors that are not similar to either team.

IV. ISAC Football Tournament Format:

  1. A full round robin will be played to establish a seeding for the final round of the tournament.
  2. A game for 5th vs 6th will take place before the semi-final games. At the discretion of the TD (due to time constraints), this may become a penalty shoot out. Coaches from both teams may also agree to go straight to penalty shoot out.
  3. Semi-final round matches will be played:1 vs 4, 2 vs 3.
  4. If the games 3rd vs 4th and 5th vs 6th end in a tie, a penalty shoot out will be used
  5. Games should begin no earlier than 8am on any day, and should be completed by dusk.
  6. Each half should be 20 minutes long for a tournament with 7 teams, with the tournament director having the option to extend the halves if less teams participate.
  7. At the end of the first half there will be a five minute break.
  8. STOPPAGE TIME – in cases where play is delayed by more than one minute for injury or other unforeseen event, stoppage time will be used. One minute of stoppage time will be added to the end of the half for each minute that play is stopped. For example; 3 minutes of stopped play = 3 minutes of added time at the end of the half. Before play resumes, the referee should inform both coaches how much stoppage time will be added to the end of the half.
  9. All round robin games will take place on Thursday, Friday and Saturday morning of the tournament, with the finals on Saturday afternoon.
  10. There shall be unlimited substitution through the 4th Official on a dead ball when the subbing team has possession or when there is no advantage to the opponent for a quick re-start. eg. After a goal or during an injury.
  11. A Red Card issued during any game will also make the player ineligible for the following game.
  12. Two yellow cards received in two different matches shall carry over and incur automatic suspension from the subsequent match.
  13. All cards will be reset at the beginning of the semi-final round.
  14. If the final game ends in a tie two full five minute overtime periods will be added (time permitting) and a penalty shoot-out will take place if the tie has not been broken.
  15. Round robin standings will be based on the 3 - win; 1- draw; 0 - loss;-1 forfeit scoring system,
  16. The ISAC tiebreak procedure shall be used when necessary.
